Art, Product or Both?

An installation by an unknown artist.

I guess this more of a quick post - more of an observation of installation that I've encountered located within a concourse space while rushing to an event.

Optimism, Pessimism & Cynicism

DATUM09, Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

By the time I'm writing this post, DATUM:KL09 have concluded its 2 days talks. It was an inspiring session, a breath of fresh air of where we & architecture could/ should and will be heading next, and deeply taking a consideration of the current world problems and crisis in every (most) design aspects.

But my post today it's not about Datum, but the mindset in facing theses 'challenges' while heading towards the next step. There seems to be three major feelings of these challenges after that day and its all kind of mixed up.

))) I Like Tronik (((

I feel that the 'hidden' (as mentioned by my colleague) regarding the local electronic music scene is progressively keeps on getting better and better (despite of its slow, silent and hidden) from within the fabrics of the hectic congested city living in Kuala Lumpur.

The 'I Like Tronik' is an event held in a 'design environment' v.i.a itudio studio are a living proof of such awesome line-ups existed from various acts of sounds, one acts after another. My personal favorites are the dark 'breakbeats' of Edtech and the sinister 'downtempo' sounds of Rainf. I've missed the first act by SaikoG, which i considered as one of the seniors in the scene.

May it be for more of 'bunyian elektrik' to come. We shall be looking forward for this one as well. The future is today.

))) Switch-On (((

It's now on, a monthly 'Bunyian Elektrik' event via KL Pac, organized by one of the frontman in sound exploration Goh Lee Kwang. Despite of its first impromptu show, I believe its a good kick start for more interesting things come, especially an avenue for hidden talent of our local electronic bedroom DJ's and composers.

I'll be tuning in.

students installation exhibition via KlPac

What fascinating about this installation are, it is a visual indicator to the wind flows across the area

It took the students almost a week to complete this installation as part of their first 'ice breaking' project assignment. I was fortunate to oversee the whole progress and development for each installations. Kudos on the final results of the overall work. Three groups consisting a collaboration in between the third year and the first year architecture students from Taylor College have came up with a very interesting idea by using simple basic materials that you could get in the hardware store.
